YOU HAVE MADE THE CHOICE
TO EMIGRATE TO
CURAÇAO, NOW WHAT?
Do you not have Dutch or American nationality? Then you belong to the category "Foreigner", a term that the Admission Organization here in Curaçao uses for it. Every foreigner who wants to stay in Curaçao for a longer period of time must in any case apply for a residence permit and, if there is also work involved, a work permit as well. Permits that must be applied for depend on nationality, length of stay and the purpose with which you wish to come to the island.
All permits are subject to the payment of dues and fees to the government here. The amounts depend on the purpose for which you are applying for the permit. You can apply for a permit with the purpose of intern / student / employee / director / retiree, remote worker or as a so-called penshonado (local term for a retired person and in possession of real estate on the island). There is also the possibility of applying for an investment permit. Each residence permit requires several documents which must be submitted to the Admission Organization (also called the TO or emigration service of Curaçao). This also applies to the work permit if you are going to work in Curaçao. If you want to work in Curaçao, you must have an employer who will vouch for you and submit or arrange for the submission of the vacancy and work permit (TWV). Will you continue to work in Curaçao for your employer di
Please keep in mind that it is a lengthy process with various procedures and conditions you need to meet in order to apply for the proper permits. The processing time for obtaining a work permit is currently 8 weeks to 4 months. For a residence permit it can sometimes take up to 5 months before the decision is ready. If you need both permits, it can take up to 8 months before you have them.
